Kim Jong-un was born on January 8, although there is some confusion about the year, with various reports that it was 1982, 1983 or 1984.

According to the Telegraph, the giving of birthday candy was started in 1980 by Kims grandther and North Koreas founding leader Kim Il-sung.

A radio report by the North Korean Central Broadcasting Station said that Kim had mobilized aircraft to ensure that every child in the country aged 10 or below received the candy gift in time.

London, Jan. 7 (ANI): North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has sent one kilogram of sweets to every child in the country to mark his birthday, carrying on a tradition started by his grandther Kim Il-sung.

Kims ther Kim Jong-il, who died in December 2011, continued the practice when he took over in 1994.
